Revamped PLI Scheme Aims to Boost Local Smartphone Manufacturing in India

© Provided by News18 Revamped PLI Scheme Aims to Boost Local Smartphone Manufacturing in India Smartphone manufacturing in India is being seen as a big avenue going forward, and the government of India is making a few changes to enable that. At the top of the charts is a revision of the existing production-linked incentive scheme for smartphone manufacturers, where an empowered committee has decided that it will no longer evaluate manufacturing plant and machinery brought into India by a brand at just 40 percent of its value. Revealed in a report by The Economic Times, this was one of the clauses to which Apple had raised an objection to. Now, the government is reportedly in discussion with manufacturers such as Foxconn, Wistron and Pegatron to attempt to move some of their manufacturing activities over to India. Interestingly, the government committee that made the above change on Friday also voted to begin involving industry players in meetings and discussions

iPhone SE and Pixel 4a are making 2020 the year of the cheap phone

Flagship phones usually command the lion's share of attention when it comes to the smartphone market. But if it seems like lower-cost devices are stealing some of the spotlight from their top-tier counterparts, you're not imagining things. True, rumors about the next iPhone are always going to get people talking, especially with this fall's iPhone 12 promising to bring 5G connectivity, better cameras and other improvements. But this spring, you've probably heard just as much about the iPhone SE 2020, a $399 phone that's actually available to buy right now and that packs the same high-powered processor as iPhones that cost hundreds of dollars more. On the Android side of things, there's a similar focus on midrange devices, as Samsung replaced last year's top-selling Galaxy A50 with the $399 Galaxy A51. And that doesn't even take into account phones that are simply rumors at this point. Google may be planning to introduce the Pixel 5 this fall, but we

ZTE Patents New Foldable Smartphone And It's… Interesting

Gambar
ZTE has submitted a patent for a new foldable smartphone, and it is actually quite interesting. This patent has been submitted with CNIPA (China National Intellectual Property Administration). The patent has been submitted today, on May 29. This is a design patent, and it includes sketches of the device. As you can see in the provided image, this phone folds outwards. This ZTE foldable design patent is reminiscent of Huawei's foldable smartphones What's interesting here, is that only about two-thirds of its back gets covered when folded. The bottom third of the phone's display folds, only. Huawei already released two devices that folds outwards, but they're not vertically-folding phones. So, imagine the Galaxy Z Flip, but instead of folding your phone inwards, to protect the display when folded, this thing folds outwards. That leaves that bottom third of the display exposed on the back when folded, and could potentially scratch it. Some foldable smartphone OEMs think th

With entire countries locked down, and possibly billions still stuck indoors, many of us have had to get creative to simply kill time and get through these long summer days. For this, content streaming platforms such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video have emerged as a popular choice. But as many of us have found out in the past, mobile gaming is a difficult beast to tame, one that requires not only time and expensive data, but also a powerful handheld device to eventually run graphics-intensive games such as PUBG and Call of Duty: Mobile. iPhone SE vs Android’s best: A $399 iPhone stands up to $3000 in Android phones

Gambar
When comparing phones, you generally want them to be in the same league. These days that might mean there's a few hundred dollars separating the models—like the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro, or the Galaxy S20+ and the OnePlus 8 Pro—but it's basically a waste of time to pit the $1,400 Galaxy S20 Ultra against the $400 Galaxy A51. Update 5//23: Added new tests to the Battery and Charging section. Mentioned in this article But Apple's new iPhone SE is a horse of a different color. Yes, it's Apple's budget phone and costs more than a thousand dollars less than the highest-end Galaxy S20, but it also has a bunch of Apple's latest tech. And, you know, it's an iPhone. I did the unthinkable and compared it to the three of the top Android phones available today: Galaxy S20 Ultra ($1,400), Google Pixel 4 ($900) and OnePlus 7T ($600). Add it all up and you've got $3,000 in Android phones against one lowly $399 iPhone. But w

Huawei Surprises Millions Of Users With Critical Google Replacement

Gambar
Huawei is now in a race against time. Until last Friday, its mission was to keep government and enterprise users—as well 650 million active smartphone users—loyal to the brand while it fought the U.S. blacklist. Until last Friday, despite shrinking sales overseas—primarily due to the loss of Google, the company continued to post decent financials based on its performance at home. And then last week hit. The U.S. celebrated the blacklist's first anniversary by exponentially increasing the stakes, changing everything for Huawei. All flagship phones will be hit by Taiwan's TSMC cutting off supplies—those sold at home and overseas. The key beneficiaries—somewhat ironically—may well be other Chinese smartphone vendors able to replicate Huawei's successful recipe. Despite all this, Huawei has suddenly unveiled a surprise alternative to Google's search and Play Store, a defiant move against both the blacklist and Google, another targeted attempt to offer a viable full-fa
