5 tips for finding and keeping top developer talent

Gambar
Whenever talk of the technology skills gap comes up, software developers are likely to be part of the discussion. In fact, people who are experienced at creating and maintaining high-quality business applications are among those most in demand. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) of the U.S. Department of Labor, which is the principal federal agency responsible for measuring labor market activity, said employment of software developers is projected to grow 21 percent from 2018 to 2028. That's a much faster rate than the average for all occupations the bureau tracks. Employment of application developers is projected to grow 26 percent, BLS says, and employment of systems developers is expected to increase by 10 percent. The main reason for the growth in both application developers and systems developers is a large increase in the demand for computer software, according to the report. The need for new applications on smartphones and table

2020 should have been huge for phones. Now Samsung Apple are at a crossroads

Gambar
The spread of coronavirus around the globe has brought the mobile industry sputtering to a near halt, just as it began revving up for a potentially blockbuster season. From my stance as a CNET phone reviewer, the need to scale back is crushing but necessary given COVID-19's serious nature. But while the industry scrambles to plan its next steps, there's one thing brands can do: Grasp at the opportunity to refocus their portfolios, designs and campaigns on features that matter. This was the year 5G-ready devices were meant to go mainstream and foldable phones were going to prove their right to exist. 2020 would belong to top-tier handsets adopting groundbreaking features for photography and 8K video recording, we thought. But then COVID-19 hit and the

The 4 Best Wired Headsets For Cell Phones

Gambar
Whether you are taking more calls at home or what a hands-free option when you are on the go, having one of the best wired headsets for cell phones makes it easy. Unlike with wireless headsets, wired options have more reliability with fewer connectivity issues and don't require charging. Many of them also have high-quality built-in microphones, and some even feature noise-canceling for better clarity during calls or when you're listening to tunes by blocking background noise. Any headset you choose should first and foremost be comfortable. Look for over-the-ear headsets with padded ear cushions and adjustable headbands. For earbuds, zero in on pairs that includes multiple earbud sizes for a secure and customized fit. Also, remember to check for compatibility. Most wired headsets have a 3.5-millimeter jack, so for those with newer models of the iPhone, you'll need a Lightning to 3.5-millimeter adapter to connect. And if you decide it might be helpful to go wireless from time

What’s Next For Samsung? That’s The Question In Saga Of Korea’s Biggest Conglomerate

Gambar
Like it or not, the South Korean economy depends to an inordinate extent on Samsung Electronics, the centerpiece of the Samsung conglomerate with interests from shipbuilding to electronics, and the fate of the heir-presumptive, Lee Jae-yong, widely known as Jay Y. Lee. Samsung Electronics earnings from products ranging from semiconductors to smartphones is equivalent to about 12% of Korea's GDP. Journalist Geoffrey Cain leaves the reader hanging at the end of his book, Samsung Rising, out this week, wondering how Korea's supreme court will rule on Lee's retrial on bribery charges. The bet is still that Samsung is too big and too important for the judges to jail him again on much the same charges for which he's already spent a year behind bars. But then, in the game of high-level Korean political and business intrigue, the future is never quite certain. Cain captures the drama of Samsung in a book that reaches a climax, almost, in two great long-running battles. Th

Only A Small Part Of This Xiaomi Phone Is Foldable: Patent

Gambar
Xiaomi has been granted a new design patent, and this time around, the company patented a phone a small part of which folds. This may sound odd, and quite frankly, it is. If you take a look at the images provided in the gallery down below, you'll see the device itself. Only a small part of this phone is foldable, and it folds outwards. The top 10-15-percent of the device is foldable. Only a small part of this Xiaomi handset folds, and it includes three cameras As you can see, on that foldable part, the company plans to include three cameras. Those three cameras can be used as rear-facing ones, when the phone is folded, and front-facing ones when it's fully unfolded. When unfolded, you get rather large display camera holes at the top, but you can keep it unfolded, if you want. That part of the device also has a secondary function, it can help you prop up your phone. This design has been patented with the CNIPA, in China. As it's usually the case, just because Xiaomi patented

The business smartphone is dead

Gambar
Last month, in a low-key announcement on Twitter, the death of the business smartphone was confirmed. In the post, BlackBerry announced that China's TCL Communications will "no longer be selling" BlackBerry-branded phones as of 31 August 2020, perhaps an unsurprising development given the once-beloved devices accounted for a mere 0.02% of the global smartphone market as of January this year.  Advertisement - Article continues below TCL has said it will continue to support models that are already in the market, such as the BlackBerry Key2, until 31 August 2022, but the end of the companies' three-year-long partnership undoubtedly marks the end of both BlackBerry and the business smartphone as we know it.  BlackBerry devices, which were once famed for their physical hardware keyboards and "uncrackable" security software, dominated the corporate market in the 2000s. In 2009, the then Research In Motion (RIM)-owned company claimed more than 20% of the smartphone

China-made phones, tablets tainted by coerced Uighur labor

NANCHANG, China (AP) - In a lively Muslim quarter of Nanchang city, a sprawling Chinese factory turns out computer screens, cameras and fingerprint scanners for a supplier to international tech giants such as Apple and Lenovo. Throughout the neighborhood, women in headscarves stroll through the streets, and Arabic signs advertise halal supermarkets and noodle shops. Yet the mostly Muslim ethnic Uighurs who labor in the factory are isolated within a walled compound that is fortified with security cameras and guards at
